Fun In The Sun: Family Outings

by on July 6, 2012

With Monday’s post being about our family outing to Greenfield Village, I thought I’d stick with that theme for this Friday’s “Fun In The Sun” post.

I love outings and day trips.  They’re something exciting to look forward too that doesn’t require too much money (or not much at all) and it’s a fun change to the routine.  Since we haven’t had a vacation since before Nick was born they’re as close as I get too one.  I was so excited last year when we went to the lake for the day that you’d think we were going away for a week.  Of course a day trip to the lake with a two month old did require a lot of packing still.

Not only do family outings give you a change of pace, but they are a wonderful time for some family bonding and making memories.  Over time the normal day to day stuff starts to all blend together.  Sure you enjoy your time with your little one, and there are certain times that stick out such as the big things like the first time they pulled themselves up, or other memories that you’re able to hold onto due to capturing them on camera, but overall those times won’t stand out in your mind.  I still remember lots of fun day trips that we took when I was a kid.  Now Nick is too young to remember our current trips, but I will.  I know I’ll never forget the day we took him to see Thomas the Train.  It doesn’t matter to me that Nick won’t recall anything of it.  I always feel that way when people say that they won’t go to Walt Disney World because their little ones won’t remember it.  Ummm, so?  Sometimes it’s just as important that mom and dad make wonderful memories, and outings with little ones can really leave you with some wonderful memories.

No matter where you live you should be able to find some place to go for a family outing.  It could be a larger place like the zoo or even an amusement park.  Or it could be as simple as packing a picnic and going to spend a day at the beach (whether it be an ocean beach or a lake).  It could be a water filled day at the pool or a water park.  It doesn’t matter where you go as long as you do go.

We all have so many things going on in our lives that it’s nice to get away as a family.  I know if we tried to spend a day together at home I’d think of one thing or another that I would need to do and it would keep me from enjoying our time together.  Family time is so important, and taking a day to do stuff together is a wonderful way to spend it.
